Letter: Reward past results by re-electing Clay Campbell
To the Editor:
I am writing this letter in support of State’s Attorney Clay Campbell. As a longtime resident of Sycamore, I find it refreshing to have a prosecutor who is not afraid to tackle the tough problems.
His accomplishments after two years in office are very impressive and should serve as an example to aspiring public servants. Be bold. Be positive. Represent the people. Confront crime.
For the life of me, I still do not understand his opponent’s message. If winning three murder trials in a row – one more than a half-century old – is not “doing the job right,” I fear what his definition of “right” really is.
His message has been more about bashing Campbell than about his own ideas. He has been suspiciously silent on the horrifying nature of the cases Campbell has grappled with since being elected. With the trial for the slaying of Antinette Keller about a month away, don’t we have an obligation to her and her family to support Campbell and the other members of the state’s attorney’s office at this critical juncture?
The role of state’s attorney is too important to reduce to a slogan on a yard sign. The safety of our families is literally at stake with this choice. We should reward results. We should re-elect Clay Campbell.
