Letter: Christensen knows what students, schools need

Published: Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012 5:30 a.m. CST

To the Editor:

I am writing this letter to encourage DeKalb County voters to vote for Amanda Christensen for Regional Superintendent of Schools.

As a former colleague and her department chair, I saw Amanda’s work firsthand. I can tell you that she is a dedicated professional who has a clear understanding of the needs of students, teachers, administrators and our schools.

Amanda has strong leadership skills. She helped craft the DeKalb High School school improvement plan, fostered the teacher mentoring and co-teaching programs, and worked diligently in the creation of the new evaluation tool used in District 428.

Amanda knows how to forge relationships, as evidenced in her work with the district’s partnership with Northern Illinois University and in her work as president of the DeKalb Classroom Teachers Association. She knows school code and has a very clear understanding of the new national standards that schools across America will be adopting in their move to improve student learning.

Most importantly, Amanda knows her purpose is to serve our students first and to help with the professional development of her colleagues, all in an effort to serve the larger community. Please cast your vote for Amanda Christensen for Regional Superintendent of Schools on Nov. 6.
