DeKALB – Police have released a composite sketch of a suspect believed to be involved in a sexual assault early Friday on Normal Road.

DeKalb and Northern Illinois University police responded to a report of a sexual assault that occurred in the 900 block of Normal Road. The victim, an NIU student, reported being battered and forcibly restrained between 2:50 and 3:30 a.m. Friday.

The woman said she was initially approached by two black men while walking along Normal Road near Ridge and Edgebrook drives, said DeKalb police Lt. Jason Leverton.

One man was taller than the other, and the taller man walked off before the assault occurred, police said. Once alone with the victim, the suspect pushed her to the ground, punched her several times in the face and tried to choke her.

The victim was taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital, where she was treated for significant head injuries, Leverton said. The woman did not know the suspect.

The suspect is described as a black male with a medium complexion, between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 11 inches tall, with an average build, weighing about 180 to 200 pounds, police said. He is 20 to 22 years old.

Those with information are asked to contact DeKalb police at 815-748-8400, or DeKalb County Crime Stoppers at 815-895-3272 or email crimestoppers@dekalbcounty.org.
