Sycamore man injured in crash on Route 38

MAPLE PARK – A Sycamore man was taken to the hospital after a SUV collided with his vehicle on Route 38 near Hinckley Road.

DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputy Bill Kaminski said a vehicle going west Monday on Route 38 was stopped and waiting to turn south onto Hinckley Road. The driver of the stopped vehicle was waiting for Gregory Robinson, 48, of Sycamore who was eastbound, to pass.

Also going west was Fatima Macalaguin, 21, of Streamwood. Kaminski said Macalaguin was unable to slow her Hyundai Santa Fe in time to avoid colliding with the stopped vehicle. She tried to go north onto the shoulder, but lost control, police said. Her car spun multiple times before hitting Robinson’s GMC Terrain.

The stopped vehicle was not affected by the crash.

Kaminski said Robinson was taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva; none of his injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

Kaminski said Macalaguin refused further medical treatment. She was cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident, Kaminski said.
