Letter: Campbell should be
rewarded with re-election

To the Editor:

I am writing this letter to strongly encourage the public to support Clay Campbell in his bid for re-election as DeKalb County State’s Attorney.

It is not often that we get a public official with such dedication and tenacity. Everyone has always talked about the crime situation in DeKalb, or the corruption at Northern Illinois University, but he has actually had the courage to do something about it. The idea of replacing him with an attorney that believes that the traffic problems in our area are the greatest threat to the public safety is ludicrous.

I have lived my entire life in DeKalb County. I raised my family here. I have spent my career working with the wonderful people here. Things have changed. Some of the crime I see reported daily in our local newspapers scares me. The series of murders over the last few years appalls me. I often wonder how we will continue to be able to attract students to our university with the reputation we are developing as a dangerous community. Enough is enough.

We need a tough and talented prosecutor and we have one now. The recent conviction in the Ridulph case brought nationwide attention to our county as a place where justice never sleeps. I am so proud of our State’s Attorney’s office and our local law enforcement for their work on this and the many other difficult cases they have solved. Clay Campbell should be commended and encouraged for his leadership and hard work, and re-elected come November.

Please take the time to cast your vote to benefit our community.
