Local briefs: Huntley Middle School volleyball wins NCJC

The Huntley Middle School volleyball team won the NCJC regular-season and tournament titles, finishing with a perfect 14-0 record in conference. Huntley was 21-2 on the season.

NIU graduate retires from coaching football

Marian Catholic Hall of Fame coach and Northern Illinois graduate Dave Mattio announced that he’s retiring from coaching after 37 seasons at the school. Mattio’s teams were 251-141. Marian won a state title in 1993 and finished second in 1999.

Mattio graduated from NIU with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Science of Education.

Somonauk Christian volleyball wins state

Somonauk Christian went 4-0 in the IACS Division I State Championship this past weekend to capture a state title. It defeated Schaumburg in the final.

Members of the team were Kelsey Ford, Tina Hamiel, Cassie Schupp, Stephanie Tetrick, Becca Conrad, Adrianna Feil and Katie Schupp.
