Letter: Romney will get nothing from me
To the Editor:
Applause for Glenn Meeter’s letter published on Saturday.
I also received such a letter from Mitt Romney. He addressed me by my first name and described me as one of America’s most notable Republicans. His intelligence is way off on almost everything, but this description of me is laughable.
I have at times voted for local Republicans because they had a message that resonated with my beliefs, and I will continue to vote my beliefs of what America stands for in whatever party best represents those principles.
Romney asked me for a contribution of “$5,000 or even $50,000, which will help him and his entire Republican ticket this fall.” He will get nothing. He has dismissed as unworthy of his concern almost half of the American citizenry, and he did so when speaking candidly to those who support him at an event where food and drink were served.
Without regard for the possible offensiveness his remarks might have for those who were serving the meal, he characterized 47 percent of Americans as thinking of themselves as “victims” and feeling entitled to what they have not worked for. Did any of those serving him and the others feel a little twinge of indignation? I hope so, and I hope they will remember that when they exercise their constitutional right to vote given to us all.
