Prairie Oaks Forest Preserve opens

The new Prairie Oaks Forest Preserve, 7535 Cherry Valley Road, opened Oct. 12.

This 43-acre nature area was purchased by the DeKalb County Forest Preserve District with a grant partnership from the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation. The Conservation Foundation also assisted in this land preservation effort.

Oak savannah, wetland, fen, stream, prairie and forest habitat is featured at this diverse natural resource area. Hiking trails and picnic areas at Prairie Oaks Forest Preserve will give visitors beautiful views of the landscape. In addition, outdoor activities such as bird watching, nature photography and environmental educational studies make Prairie Oaks a great place to enjoy a close-to-home day trip.
