Mulso: Tis the season to win, shop and celebrate

Published: Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012 5:30 a.m. CDT

On a beautiful fall day there’s nothing better than visiting an apple orchard, taking a hay ride, finding your way through a corn maze, sipping warm cider and enjoying a cinnamon apple doughnut. The scents and sounds of fall are amazing!

A few weeks ago that’s just what our family did, and I can’t tell you how many people were already talking about holiday events, shopping and decorating for the holidays. As the executive director for the chamber, it has me very excited to share with you what is happening in our quaint town for the upcoming Christmas season.

In our efforts to promote local shopping, the Genoa Area Chamber of Commerce and the Explore Genoa committee, has introduced the “12 Days of Christmas” raffle.

Each day beginning Dec. 10 and ending Dec. 21, a $100 winner will be drawn with bonus days Dec. 14 for $250 and Dec. 21 for $500. Winning tickets will be re-entered for a chance in each remaining day’s drawing. Only 1,000 tickets will be sold.

Prizes will be awarded in the form of chamber gift certificates to be used at any of the chamber member businesses.

Tickets are available at Resource Bank, Tobinson’s Ace Hardware, Citizens First National Bank, Speciality Gifts by Brenda, Embroidery Sew Into It and NB&T. Or call the chamber at 815-784-2212.

The last day to purchase your “12 Days of Christmas” raffle tickets (while they last) is during “Celebrate the Season,” an event welcoming Santa to town, from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 7 in downtown Genoa.

The streets will be alive with music and the 12th annual jingle bell parade. Join us for a tree-lighting ceremony, $1 carriage rides, petting zoo, face painting, late night holiday shopping, beautiful window displays, raffles, Christmas carolers, coloring contests, food booths, vendors and crafts.

Our holiday characters, Christmas Elf, Snowman, Holiday Tree and Great Genoa Duck will be strolling throughout the community. Oh and don’t forget to visit Santa in his house for a free picture with Santa. Sponsorship opportunities are available. For more information contact the Genoa Chamber at 815-784-2212 or email
