To the Editor:
I have been a regular voter for the past 47 years, and I cherish my right to do so. I have also enjoyed the American dream of owning my own business for the past 40 years. However, I believe America is being led in the wrong direction.
As a business owner, I can’t imagine what Obamacare is really going to cost and what it will cover. We are going into this thing blind. Who would say, “Give me a car,” and then sit back to find out later what it is going to cost you? We need to wake up and wake up fast. I hope the reader remembers Democratic Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s now famous quote when Obamacare was being considered: “We must pass this bill so we can see what’s in it.”
Do people not read the news? I have. I find it shocking what the so-called “liberal press” does not cover. We have to be careful as a nation. I have seen the other side, and I know what it’s like when the people are told only what those in charge want them to hear. Is that what America is becoming? What about when a president challenges the authority of the Supreme Court? This strikes at the very root of our system of checks and balances, but the people seem not to have noticed or cared. Are we sheep?
Are we better off than we were four years ago? I think not. What I fear most is, what could the next four years be like if we continue on this path? The business Stimulus Act wasted hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars on a number of green businesses that eagerly took the money and then filed for bankruptcy. That money will never be repaid. I guess some bad decisions were made, but then again, we have a president who has never run even the smallest type of business or had to meet a payroll.
If the American people are happy with businesses closing, steady high unemployment, high gas prices, a bad housing market and promised tax increases, then I suppose they will vote to keep things as they are. In 2008, the American people voted for Hope and Change. In 2012, let’s vote and Hope to Change.
