KCH offers wellness programs

Kishwaukee Community Hospital will offer the following Community Wellness programs:

Caring for the Caregiver

If you are a spouse, partner, family member or person caring for someone living with cancer, join in the continued series that explores the challenges faced by caregivers to learn new insights, practical steps and effective coping strategies around the unique issues experienced by caregivers. This is an opportunity to share experiences and hear from others about wisdom and lessons learned to keep going while caring for a loved one with cancer. A box is lunch provided. This free class will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at The Cancer Center at Kishwaukee Community Hospital. Registration is required for this program and closes three days before the program date. A minimum number of participants is required. Class size is limited. Untwist Your Thinking

Many times emotional distress happens in response to distorted or unhelpful thoughts. Join KishHealth System therapist Mary McKinnell to learn how to recognize when this occurs and how to rework these distortions in order to improve your mood. This free class will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 12 in Kish Hospital’s Roberts Conference Center. Registration is required and closes three days before the program date. ABCs of Diabetes

In recognition of World Diabetes Day on Nov. 14, the Kish Hospital Diabetes Education Team and DeKalb Clinic are dedicating a night focused on helping people prevent or manage diabetes. Foot checks will be available available. This free class will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 13 in Kish Hospital’s Roberts Conference Center. AARP Drivers Safety Course

This two-session class, for people age 50 and older, features the nation’s first and largest classroom refresher for mature drivers. The class includes workbook assignments, video instruction and class lectures. The class does not include a driving test. Participants receive a certificate of completion for auto insurance discount. This class will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Nov. 14 and 15 in Kish Hospital’s Roberts Conference Center. The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for nonmembers.
