Handmade dollhouse, toys donated to library

DeKalb Public Library patron Lori Brown commissioned a new dollhouse to be made for the library’s youth services department. Mick Reeves designed and built the large dollhouse.

Children immediately took a liking to it and began using the many rooms of the house. Lisa Vogel painted and donated sky designs resting behind the dollhouse, giving the space and dollhouse a nestled, inviting presence. Brown also painted and donated some “residents” to fill the dollhouse, as well as donating a road-patterned carpet and a variety of wooden road signs.

“It’s been wonderful to see the children’s imaginations take hold while playing with the dollhouse and car carpet,” Theresa Winterbauer, youth services department manager, said in a news release.

Girl Scout Cadette Troop 543 donated five safety kits to the department. Each kit has a different theme: a Street Smarts Box, Fire Safety Box, Sport Safety Box, Natural Disasters Box and a Camping and Wild Animal Safety Box. Each box contains miscellaneous items and games that are relevant to its theme. The kits are available for checkout.
