PREP ROUNDUP: Sycamore's Ye 1-1 on final day of state tourney

Sycamore freshman Angelina Ye went 1-1 on the third day of the IHSA State Tennis Tournament. Ye defeated Geneva's Kirby Einck, 8-0 in the sixth round of the consolation bracket, and lost her seventh round consolation match to Chicago Whitney Young's Natalie Whalen, 8-1.

"She had a good run," Sycamore coach Dave Hillmer said. "It's a great season for her."

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Schrader takes title:
DeKalb junior Kelsey Schrader won the Class 3A Wheaton North Regional, finishing with a time of 17:30.5.

"Kelsey controlled the race from the front," DeKalb coach Mike Wolf said. "She started in good position and put a lot of distance between her and the second-place girl in the third mile."

The Barbs finished fourth as a team with 110 points to earn a sectional spot. DeKalb's Danielle Dlabal took 12th at 18:52.7, while Sara Schafer was 25th at 19:19.6.

Knights' Clinton wins regional: Kaneland's Victoria Clinton took first at the Class 2A Wheaton Academy Regional, coming in with a time of 18:05.7. The Knights won the team title with a score of 43. Sycamore was fifth with 131, earning a sectional spot.

Maggie Lalowski led the Spartans with a time of 19:51.9.
Kurpius earns sectional spot:
Genoa-Kingston senior Renae Kurpius finished in 42nd place at the Class 1A Winnebago Regional, earning a spot in next week's sectional. Kurpius had a time of 20:04.23. The Cogs finished ninth as a team with 257 points.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Dubrick takes 1st:
DeKalb's Marc Dubrick won the Class 3A Wheaton North Regional, coming in with a time of 15:26.7. The Barbs' Isaac Heitanen was 14th (15:56.9) while Patrick Martin was 18th (16:03.9). DeKalb took third as a team with 91 points.

"Great race for Marc," DeKalb coach Mike Wolf said. "He made a strong move after 1 1/2 miles and took control of the race."

Knights 2nd at own regional: Kaneland finished second at the Class 2A Kaneland Regional with 69 points. Conor Johnson led the Knights, taking sixth at 16:36.7. Kyle Carter was seventh at 16:37.2.

Sycamore was third with 96 points. Mark Stice took fourth for the Spartans at 16:32.8. Adam Millburg was eighth at 16:39.4.

Cogs' Herrman qualifies: Genoa-Kingston senior Zach Herrman finished 37th at the Class 1A Winnebago Regional with a mark of 16:27.90.

The Cogs were 10th overall with 236 points.

VOLLEYBALL
Host Knights 2nd at tourney:
Kaneland took second place at the Spikefest Tournament, getting wins over Riverside-Brookfield, Hampshire, Metea Valley and Yorkville while losing to Geneva, the tournament champion.

Ashley Prost had 16 Kills, four aces, 35 Assists and 20 Digs for the Knights (21-12). Jenny Lubic had 47 assists and 17 digs, while Lyndi Scholl finished with 26 kills and 20 digs. Emily Laudont had 18 kills, three aces and 17 digs for Kaneland.
T'Wolves get one win at Stillman Valley:
Indian Creek finished 1-2 at the Stillman Valley Tournament Saturday. The Timberwolves are now 17-16.

Kate Thuestad made the all-tournament team, finishing with 14 kills, 23 digs and three aces. Ariel Russell had five kills, four aces and 32 digs for Indian Creek, while Dallas Boehne finished with 17 digs and 31 assists.

"Overall it was a very good tournament for us," Indian Creek coach Stephanie Crutcher said. "Pretty excited for the way we played this weekend."
