Prep Football Week 9: What's at stake?

What are our five local teams playing for in the last week of the regular season?

It's Week 9... Sycamore and Kaneland are headed to the postseason, but there's a lot on the line for all of our local teams in the final week of the regular season.

Morris at Kaneland: Hmm....third consecutive undefeated regular season on the line. Third consecutive Northern Illinois Big 12 title in the balance. That enough for ya?

Yorkville at Sycamore: A win puts the Spartans in better playoff position. A loss means they'd likely go on the road to one of the top teams in Class 5A. Beating Yorkville would also make it four straight seasons of 6+ wins for Sycamore. Quite a turnaround considering Sycamore went seven years without winning six games before breaking the streak in 2009.

DeKalb at Rochelle: Momentum. Plain and simple. In 2009, DeKalb played Rochelle in Week 9 and came out with a 23-16 victory. The next year they made the playoffs. Could happen again...

Marengo at Genoa-Kingston: The future. G-K is starting a sophomore quarterback for the second consecutive week to gain in-game experience. A win would also stem a four-game losing streak after a 2-2 start to the season.

Luther North at Hiawatha: Spoiler. Luther North is 4-4 and has aspirations of going to the playoffs. Hiawatha could keep the Wildcats out of the postseason and a victory would propel the Hawks into the top half of the Northeast Athletic Conference.
