Running club participates in Batavia Accelerator's meet
Northern Illinois Athletics Running Club participated in the Batavia Accelerator's cross country meet on Saturday.

Shabonna's Evan Ostrander, 14, took second place in the youth boys 4,000 with a time of 15:28. Sycamore's Noah Wester, 8, was third in the peewee boys 1500m, finishing in 6:14 while Sycamore's Alex Taylor, 9, was fourth in the bantam boys 3,000 with a time of 12:36.

Earlville's Emily Schilling, 15, won the open 3,000 meter run in 12 minutes, 45 seconds. Sycamore's Lisa Heegaard, 14, was ninth in the youth girls 4,000, finishing in 21:24.

IHSA releases girls tennis state tourney pairings
The IHSA has released the pairings for the first round of the girls tennis state tournament.

No local teams or players were seeded.

Sycamore freshman will face Rockford Lutherna freshman Carly Kasicki in the first round.

DeKalb senior Taylor Volk will play Carbondale senior Shanaz Daneshdoost while Kaneland sophomore Sammie Schrepferman faces Homewood-Flossmoor senior Adesuwa Osabuohien.

The Kaneland doubles team of sophomores Madi Jurcenko and Jelly Emmanouil will play Rockford Boylan Catholic's Grace Alexander and Sam Diemer, both seniors.

The three-day tournament starts Thursday.

Cornerstone Christian Academy soccer team takes third in state
Cornerstone Christian Academy's varsity soccer team took third in the Associated of Christian Schools International state tournament last weekend.

Cornerstone won its first game of the state tournament before falling in an overtime shootout in game two.

The postseason success follows a record-breaking regular season in which Cornerstone went undefeated in the Northern Illinois Christian Conference.

Thomas Johnson, Nick Ladas, Sal Arguello and Caleb Guio were named All-Conference while Caleb Hudson and Kelly Johnson were Honorable Mention selections. Guio was also named the MVP of the conference.

Colts waive former NIU QB
The Indianapolis Colts waived former Northern Illinois quarterback Chandler Harnish Tuesday.

Harnish, who was selected by the Colts with the last pick in the 2012 NFL Draft (253rd overall), had yet to appear in a game. During the preseason Harnish completed 27 of 47 passes for 406 yards.

The Bluffton, Ind. native started for NIU from 2008-11, setting 30 offensive records, and was a first team All-Mid-American Conference selection his junior and senior seasons. He was the MAC MVP as a senior.

NIU suspends Womble indefinitely
Northern Illinois running back Jamal Womble has been suspended from the team indefinitely, NIU spokeswoman Donna Turner confirmed Monday night.

Womble was charged with driving under the influence, driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol content greater than the legal limit, and improper lane use on Friday. He didn't dress for NIU's 45-3 win over Buffalo on Saturday afternoon.

The senior tailback has eight rushes for 12 yards with a touchdown so far this season. He had three carries in the season opener against Iowa and carried the ball five times in Week 2 against Tennessee-Martin, losing a fumble.
