The Hinckley-Big Rock boys soccer team beat Princeton, 7-1, in a Class 1A Mendota Sectional semifinal. The Royals will play Earlville-Leland in Saturday’s sectional final, which begins at 11 a.m.
Bernie Conley scored three goals for H-BR, while Billy Weissinger, Jack Bullard, Jared Madden and Eric Phillips added one each.
Weissinger and Zach Michels each had two assists for the Royals, with Bullard, Madden and Connor Nelson adding one apiece.
“The Royals played very unselfish soccer and in an all-around team effort, assisted on all seven of their goals,” H-BR coach Paul Taeuber said.
H-BR is now 20-4.
Cogs advance: Genoa-Kingston beat St. Edward, 7-2, in a Class 1A Rockford Keith Sectional semifinal. The Cogs will play Keith in Friday’s sectional final, which begins at 6 p.m.
G-K scored the first four goals of the game. Devon Tijerina and Juan Lechuga had two goals for the Cogs, while Cris Camargo, Eric Tomlinson and Tommy Hansen had one apiece. Camargo had three assists for G-K, while Hansen added two and Francisco Marquez had one.
The Cogs are now 15-6-1.
“We came out with our game plan which was try to score right away. We didn’t want them to score first and then sit back and try and clear everything,” G-K coach Randy Tate said. “We came out pretty strong, I was really happy with the way we started the game.”
Spartans top Redskins: Sycamore defeated Morris, 25-11, 25-17 behind seven kills and eight digs from Brittany Huber and five kills and four digs from Hannah Knox. Emily Young finished with four kills and eight digs for Sycamore, with Hannah Knox adding five kills and four digs.
The Spartans are now 20-13-2 and 7-2 in the Northern Illinois Big 12 East.
“They played pretty much flawless. They were very good on serve-receive,” Sycamore coach Debbie Klock said. “We did a nice job of reading [Morris’] hits and adjusting to their new offense. They’re starting to come together and that’s what we need to do this time of year.”
Foxes take down Barbs: Yorkville beat DeKalb, 25-18, 18-25, 25-23. Courtney Bemis led the Barbs (26-8, 5-4 Northern Illinois Big 12 East) with nine kills and 10 digs.
Madison Lord finished with eight kills and 16 assists for DeKalb, while Jenna Scheri had 19 assists. Stephanie Milroy added 15 digs.
Kaneland gets conference win: Kaneland improved to 17-10 and 5-4 in the Northern Illinois Big 12 East with a 25-16, 25-14 win over Rochelle.
Lyndi Scholl had seven kills, nine digs and an ace for the Knights, with Shayna Tucek adding 16 digs. Ashley Prost had three kills, five digs and eight assists, and Lauren Banbury finished with five kills and two blocks.
Royals top Paw Paw: Hinckley-Big Rock defeated Paw Paw, 25-21, 24-26, 25-17.
T’Wolves fall: Newark defeated Indian Creek, 25-17, 20-25, 25-17. Kate Thuestad had 14 kills and 11 digs for Indian Creek, and Dallas Boehne finished with 20 assists. Ariel Russell had 10 digs and Nicole Goodrich added seven kills.
The Timberwolves are now 14-12 and 4-4 in the Little Ten Conference.
Indians fall: Lisle beat Sandwich 25-8, 25-16. Ashley Jones had 11 digs for the Indians.
Bobcats get win: Somonauk defeated Earlville-Leland, 25-10, 25-19 to improve to 15-11. Allison Humes had nine kills and three aces for the Bobcats.
