Sycamore starts leaf pickup on Monday

Published: Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012 5:30 a.m. CST

SYCAMORE – Some Sycamore residents can begin raking their leaves out to the edge of the street on Monday for the city’s annual leaf pickup program.

The city will deploy machines for leaf pickup on a rotating basis starting Monday through Nov. 21.

The city is divided into two sections for the program and residents should visit www.cityofsycamore.com/publicworks/leafpickupprogram.htm to see what section they live in and when their area will be serviced.

City officials reminded residents to avoid raking leaves near catch basins, culvert pipes or into ditches as that can cause severe flooding problems in the event of heavy rain. They also asked residents to rake leaves into loose piles along the edge of the curb.

Leaves containing branches, brush, grass clippings, animal waste or other debris will not be picked up because they clog the vacuum tubes and damage machines.

Leaves may also be placed in a biodegradable Kraft paper bag, or a dedicated container marked landscape waste only. There is a 50-pound weight limit and bags will be picked up on regularly scheduled collection days.

Residents can call the Sycamore Public Works Department at 815-895-3545 for more information.
