Prep Football Week 8: Instant Analysis

Kaneland remains undefeated while DeKalb gets a big win.

Two local teams made statement victories in Week 8. Kaneland dominated Sycamore, 30-7, moving to 8-0 on the year while DeKalb recorded its second win of the season in a 47-0 shellacking of Yorkville.

Here's what we learned from Week 8...

Harvard 36, Genoa-Kingston 7: Starting a sophomore quarterback for the first time, the Cogs couldn't handle the Hornets on the road. G-K has its fair share of close calls this season, but Harvard proved to be too much. G-K will finish up with Marengo at home on Senior Night in Week 9, hoping to grab a third win of the season.

Kaneland 30, Sycamore 7: Watching Kaneland against Sycamore, you would've never known they were typically an up-tempo passing team. The Knights ran it consistently, giving Jesse Balluff 20+ carries and backup QB Tyler Carlson was efficient out of the wildcat and ran for more than 100 yards. The Knights will face 8-0 Morris at home next week.

Sycamore's offensive and defensive lines were pushed around for the maybe the first time all season. After a successful opening drive, the Spartans never got anything going offensively. They will try to officially clinch a playoff berth with a win over Yorkville in Week 9.

DeKalb 47, Yorkville 0: This is what has to have DeKalb fans frustrated. So much talent and potential finally came together against Yorkville. Dre Brown and Jack Sauter had solid games running the ball and the defense pitched a shutout.

The Barbs go on the road to Rochelle next week. A win against the Hubs would be huge momentum going into next season when both Brown and Sauter return.

Hiawatha goes on the road to Christian Liberty on Saturday afternoon.
