The Northern Illinois University Community School of the Arts invites instrumentalists and vocalists 18 years old and younger to participate in the annual CSA Sinfonia Concerto Competition.

Applications must be received by Oct. 22 and auditions are scheduled for Nov. 5 in the Music Building at NIU. Applicants must live within a 75-mile radius of DeKalb.

Music to be performed at the audition must be one movement of a standard solo concerto or an appropriate one-movement composition. All selections must be memorized. The time limit for auditions is eight minutes.

The winner receives a cash prize of $200 and performs with the CSA Sinfonia on Feb. 20 in the Concert Hall of the Music Building at NIU. Linc Smelser is the music director of CSA Sinfonia, a highly respected regional high school age orchestra. Members are admitted by audition.

Concerto Competition guidelines and application forms are available from the NIU Community School of the Arts office, Room 132, Music Building, by calling 815-753-1450, or online at www.csa.niu.edu.

The NIU Community School of the Arts offers year round music lessons and ensembles, as well as music, art and theater classes to people of all ages in the area.
