Student wins scholarship for visually impaired
Genoa resident and Western Illinois University student Alexis Kathaly has earned a $2,500 scholarship from The Chicago Lighthouse for People Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired for her strong academic record and impressive resume of giving back to the community.
Despite being visually impaired, Kathaly found ways to participate in a wide range of social activities, including dancing, playing the viola and acting.
She took her talents to the WIU campus, where she continues her strong academic performance and plans to major in English or law.
Kathaly volunteered in producing a community dance, assisted with a number of Bible school projects and provided meals to underprivileged individuals at her church.
