Tom Matya, the president of the DeKalb District 428 Board of Education, has been selected as chairman of the host committee for the 2013 IHSA state football championships at Northern Illinois University.
In June, the IHSA approved NIU's bid to host the state football championships in odd years starting in 2013.
"I am excited and honored to take on the role of host committee chair," Matya said at a press conference held at NIU on Tuesday. "This is not just a Dekalb or NIU event. It's a collaborative event between all our communities in Northern Illinois."
Matya will begin recruiting individuals to be part of the committee and plans to create various sub-committees to take over different responsibilities associated with hosting the state championships.
