Guest musicians to perform at NIU

Northern Illinois University’s School of Music will host a concert featuring guest artists Anthony Stoops (double bass), Ching-chu Hu (piano and composer), and School of Music faculty member David Maki (piano and composer). The concert will take place at 8 p.m. Oct. 19 in the Recital Hall of the Music Building, 300 Lucinda Ave., DeKalb.

The program will include new and recent works by Hu, Maki and John Allemeier. Three works received their world premieres during the Austin Bass Fest at the University of Texas in September. All of the pieces will be recorded this winter at NIU for commercial release in the spring of 2013.

Anthony Stoops has established an international reputation as a leading pedagogue and versatile performer on the Double Bass. Currently a teacher of double bass at the University of Oklahoma School of Music, his current and former students have won prizes in important competitions, and have been placed at both the undergraduate and graduate level at several leading schools of music throughout the country.
