Gaelic Storm headed to town; tickets on sale today

Published: Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 5:30 a.m. CST

Gaelic Storm will return to the Egyptian Theatre in DeKalb for a concert at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 16. Tickets go on sale at 11 a.m. today.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.egyptiantheatre.org, by phone at 815-758-1225 or at the Egyptian box office at 135 N. Second St. in DeKalb. The box office is open from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays.

It has been more than a decade since Gaelic Storm’s career lifted off with an appearance in the blockbuster film “Titanic.” Since their big-screen debut, the band’s fan base has multiplied with each new album, turning the one-time pub band into one of the premier touring acts in the Celtic/World music genre. Gaelic Storm’s compelling originals and fresh arrangements steeped in traditional Celtic melody combine with a unique blend of world rhythms to broaden the musical horizons of the genre.

Gaelic Storm steps back into the ring with “Chicken Boxer,” a heavyweight album with a mix of empowering anthems and traditional ballads. “Chicken Boxer” is the third Gaelic Storm album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard World Albums Chart, joining “What’s the Rumpus?” (2008) and “Cabbage” (2010). “Chicken Boxer” is the fifth album to be released on the band’s own label, Lost Again Records, and showcases the band that has made its mark bringing fans to their feet 200 days per year.

The group’s ability to incorporate a rock sensibility into its sound affords rare crossover appeal. In recent years, they’ve performed on the same bill with the Zac Brown Band, the Goo Goo Dolls, Emmylou Harris and Lyle Lovett, at events as varied as the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and Milwaukee’s Summerfest. Gaelic Storm blends indie-folk and world grooves with Celtic tradition.

Ticket prices for regular reserved seating range from $25 to $30. A limited number of premium seats are available for $32 to $37.
