Thanks for attending Switchback concert

To the Editor:

Thank you to everyone who attended the Irish-American band Switchback concert at the Egyptian Theatre, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of DeKalb County. Thank you to those who expressed interest in registering to vote! Thanks also to the staff and volunteers at the Egyptian Theatre who made the concert possible. Local businesses who graciously allowed advertising the concert on their bulletin boards also deserve big thanks, too, as do the local media outlets who mentioned the concert, especially the staff at DeKalb County Online, who took the time to write a longer article about Switchback. Special thanks go to Gavin Wilson who welcomed members of the league to distribute flyers at his show.

The next event for the League will be a Candidates’ Night on Oct. 17 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in DeKalb City Hall, broadcast live on the public access channel and the city’s website. Questions from the audience will be taken at the door. The league does hope to grow, and with more members, we will be able to expand and host more candidates’ nights in different locations throughout DeKalb County in the future.

For those who wanted to hear Switchback but could not attend because of prior plans and for everyone who went and begged to have the band back, they will return to the Egyptian Theatre for a special concert on May 18, 2013. Save the date!

Thanks to the DeKalb County Picnic organization

To the Editor:

Yesterday was one of the most “funnest” days since I’ve been in DeKalb!

All due to the DeKalb County Picnic organization. Thanks.

It was the first I attended, and boy, if I’m around next year, I’ll be there again.

The lovely dining area, the beautiful decorations, the big crowd – then the food, friendly and festive scene. Finally, the entertainment, big and small musicians. Sing along, stories, sympathy for Andy William’s passing – nothing was missed. Thanks.

Last but not least, the finest volunteers who made it all possible. Thanks so much. You still should have danced with me Fred!!
