Sycamore firefighters douse house fire

Firefighters responded to a call at 12:55 p.m. Tuesday at 1311 Everett St. in Sycamore and found light smoke showing at the rear of the home.

Sycamore Assistant Fire Chief Marc Doty said there was a first-floor fire that took roughly 10 minutes to contain.

The fire was accidental and started in the home’s kitchen, with damage to the home and contents estimated at a combined $150,000, according to a news release from the Sycamore Fire Department.

The American Red Cross was assisting the family. Firefighters from the DeKalb and Cortland fire departments assisted Sycamore. Genoa-Kingston Fire/Rescue staffed Sycamore Station 1 during the fire.
