Prep roundup: Genoa-Kingston boys golf advances to sectional

Cogs get win: Genoa-Kingston defeated North Boone, 25-14, 25-15, to move to 16-9 and 6-2 in the Big Northern East. Olivia Cotton had nine digs and five aces for the Cogs, while Sam Hansel finished with five kills.

Indians fall: Seneca beat Sandwich, 25-16, 25-15. Hannah Weatherly had six digs for the Indians, while Jesse Bivins had six assists.

Bobcats win, Royals win, Hawks lose at L-10 tourney: Somonauk beat Hiawatha, 25-18, 25-18 at the Little Ten Tournament.

Ashlee Kawall had 17 digs and five kills for the Bobcats. Jacquelyn Thorp recorded five kills and five aces.

Dani Clark had four kills and six digs for the Hawks, and Savanna Campbell finished with 15 assists. Hiawatha is now 5-11.

"The team played very well in spurts. We have been matching the intensity of our opponents, but have not been setting our own pace," Hawks coach Jenna Araujo said. "We showed tonight that we are capable of playing and competing with good programs, but we still need some growth. The girls showed good communication tonight which helped lead to a tough battle."

In other action Tuesday night, Hinckley-Big Rock beat Paw Paw 2-1 in the consolation semifinals.

Hiawatha will play LaMoille at 5 p.m. Thursday in the consolation semifinals, while the Bobcats will face Indian Creek in the semifinals at 7 p.m.

BOYS SOCCER

Royals advance to Little Ten final: Jared Madden had two goals for Hinckley-Big Rock in Tuesday’s 2-1 Little Ten semifinal win over Earlville-Leland. Bernie Conley had an assist for the Royals, who advance to Thursday’s championship against Somonauk.

H-BR is now 17-3.

T’Wolves get consolation win: Indian Creek beat Paw Paw, 6-2 in the consolation semifinals of the Little Ten Tournament. Tyler Ostrom, Matt Shroka, Jake Gullstrand, Carlos Sanchez, Dillon Martenson and Aaron Bolton all scored for the Timberwolves, who will face Serena for fifth place Thursday.

Hawks fall in LTC tourney: Somonauk defeated Hiawatha, 4-3, in the semifinals of the Little Ten Tournament. Reyman Solis and Poncho Garcia had goals for the Hawks. Josh Schmitt had two goals for Somonauk, while Marcus Alsladt and Tommy Skupien each had one.
