FAA: Small plane from Tennessee crashes in Gary, Ind.

GARY, Ind. – Officials say a small plane has crashed about a mile south of the Gary/Chicago International Airport and at least one person is dead.

Federal Aviation administration spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory says in a recorded statement that a small plane originating in Smyrna, Tenn., crashed Wednesday morning south of the airport bordering the Indiana Toll Road just south of Lake Michigan.

Cory says in a recorded statement that "the local coroner will identify the deceased."
