Chicago police officer charged with misconduct
CHICAGO – A 24-year veteran Chicago police officer is free on $100,000 bond on charges he had sex with a prisoner he'd promised to release from the West Side lockup where the officer worked.
Officer Nelson Stewart on Friday was charged with custodial sexual misconduct, official misconduct and bribery, all felonies.
Assistant State's Attorney Lynn McCarthy said Stewart was in charge of the Harrison District police station's male lockup facility when he offered to release a man in exchange for a sexual "favor."
