Somonauk foundation to honor teacher

Somonauk Education Foundation will hold its dinner and auction at 6 p.m. Oct. 13 at Timber Creek Inn and Suites, Sandwich. This year’s honoree is Ron Anderson.

Anderson taught seventh-grade biology and eighth-grade earth science in Somonauk schools from 1964 to 1989. He also taught at Sandwich for two years before coming to Somonauk. He coached baseball, basketball, track, and boys’ softball while at Somonauk schools. He coached the last high school basketball game in the old gym and the first high school basketball game in the new gym.

Anderson attended Somonauk schools for his 12 years of schooling and has several grandchildren who have or are attending Somonauk schools. He also has been the junior dairy superintendent at the Sandwich Fair for 49 years.

Anderson has been married for 56 years to Joan. Their children are Margo, Marla, Kirk, Kelly and Kyle. They have 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He and Joan, along with several family members, own and operate The Village Courtyard restaurant in Somonauk.

SEF’s main goals are awarding scholarships to graduating seniors and grants to teachers to support and enrich the educational opportunities in Somonauk schools.
