Man charged in incident with a screwdriver

DeKALB – A DeKalb man was charged with assault and aggravated assault Thursday after allegedly threatening someone with a screwdriver.

When police responded to the call shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday, DeKalb police Lt. Jason Leverton said police were initially told that someone was being threatened with a knife during an altercation in the 400 block of West Taylor Street.

When police arrived, Leverton said it was apparent that the victim had been physically assaulted before a man pulled out a screwdriver and threatened to stab the victim.

Leverton said no one was injured with the screwdriver. Robert J. Jones, 24, of the 800 block of Colby Court in DeKalb, was charged with assault and aggravated assault. Jones was released from the DeKalb County Jail on his own recognizance Friday.
