Kishwaukee Community Hospital offers the following upcoming community wellness programs

Zumba (free trial)

Don’t miss this opportunity to try Zumba, a full-body workout dancing to Latin music, for free for two weeks. Join licensed certified instructor Lakrisha Compton to learn simple steps that help you burn calories and get in shape while having fun. Classes meet from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 1, 3, 8 and 10 at Unlimited Performance Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine, Sycamore. Maintain a Healthy Heart with Dr. Kurien

Are you looking for practical ways to keep your heart healthy? Join cardiologist Dr. Shaun Kurien to learn about major risk factors for heart disease and how to manage them. This free class will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 9 in Kish Hospital’s Roberts Conference Center. Registration is required and closes three days before the program date. Control Your Cholesterol

Are you concerned about your cholesterol? Do you understand what affects cholesterol levels? Whether your levels are high or normal, there are lifestyle changes you can make to reduce or maintain healthy cholesterol. Join us to receive a variety of resources and tools to develop healthy life-long habits. If you have your cholesterol results, bring them. Diabetes: Self-Management

Learn the latest in diabetes care with an emphasis on the positives. Take the initiative now to control your diabetes and not allow it to control you. This class meets from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 13 and 20 in Kish Hospital’s Diabetes Education Center. Registration is required for this program and closes three days before the program date. Weekly Blood Pressure Clinics

A community wellness health professional from Kishwaukee Community Hospital monitors your blood pressure weekly free at three area locations. Attendees receive blood pressure information and a tracking card. On Mondays at Kish Hospital from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Wednesdays at KishHealth Family and Specialty Care in Genoa from 9 to 11 a.m., and on Thursdays at KishHealth Family & Specialty Care in Waterman from 9 to 11 a.m. No registration is required; just walk in.

HeartWise Cardiac Health Evaluation

The Kish Hospital HeartWise Cardiac Health Evaluation program uses a combination of screening and non-invasive tests to evaluate risk factors for heart disease including: a state-of-the-art CT heart scan to reveal extent of calcified plaque, an indication of blockage in the coronary arteries; a blood draw for cholesterol and blood sugar levels; blood pressure, BMI and waist measurement; computerized health risk assessment; and a personal consultation with a registered nurse to identify and understand your cardiac risk factors. Suggested for those age 40 or older with at least one risk factor for heart disease. The cost is $99 person. May not be covered by insurance. Appointments are required.
