The Elmwood Cemetery Mausoleum is a new addition to the Sycamore History Museum's Cemetery Walk this year.

The Sycamore History Museum’s annual Heritage Cemetery Walk is Sunday.

The tour will be a little different this year because the new mausoleum is one of the featured stops in Elmwood Cemetery. As in years’ past many interesting stories will be shared by presenters highlighting ordinary and extraordinary people buried at Elmwood Cemetery.

“This is always one of our most popular programs,” Michelle Donahoe, executive director of the Sycamore History Museum, said in a news release. “The committee starts researching possible people six months in advance. There is a lot of behind-the-scenes work put into these presentations. We are excited to show the mausoleum to people this year because many people have not had the opportunity to be inside.”

The cemetery walk is an annual event for the Sycamore History Museum. This year, eight people will be presented in addition to the Garden of Decorations and The Garden of the Good Shepherd. Many volunteers will be sharing their research, including two junior docents. Note that the program starts at the mausoleum, not the mourning house where it has started in the past.

The Cemetery Walk will start at 1 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in Sycamore. The suggested donation is $5 per person. For more information, call 815-895-5762 or visit www.sycamorehistory.org.
