Sox must beat Rays to stay within 1 game of lead

CHICAGO – The Detroit Tigers' walk-off win this afternoon puts the pressure on the White Sox.

The Sox need a win tonight versus the Tampa Bay Rays to stay one game back of Detroit. Tampa Bay is also fighting for a postseason appearance, sitting 2 1/2 games out of the final Wild Card spot. The Rays have won seven straight games while the Sox have dropped seven of their last eight.

Jake Peavy (11-12, 3.40 ERA) starts for the Sox while right-hander James Shields (15-9, 3.65) takes the mound of the Rays. In his last outing at Anaheim, Peavy lasted five innings after allowing five runs.
