Bears running back Matt Forte returned to practice Wednesday after sitting out for almost two weeks because of a sprained ankle.
Forte, who practiced in shorts and shoulder pads along with his teammates, said his ankle was feeling better and he thought that he would be able to play Monday against the Dallas Cowboys.
"I didn’t really swell up [after the injury]," Forte said. "That’s a big part when you have an ankle injury – when the swelling is big, it takes a long time to get it out. But I didn’t really swell up, so I felt like I’d be back pretty soon."
Bears coach Lovie Smith said he was happy to see Forte back on the practice field.
"My glass is always half-full," Smith said. "We have said he’s making progress every day, which he is, and it’s no more than that."
Yet Smith cautioned not to draw too many conclusions from Wednesday's practice.
"He’s got a long ways to go, still," Smith said. "But he is making progress, and hopefully we can get him out there."
