Sale of ex-Dixon comptroller's property nets $4M
DIXON – The U.S. Marshals Service said a two-day auction of property owned by indicted former Dixon Comptroller Rita Crundwell raised about $4.78 million.
Crundwell is accused of misappropriating more than $53 million from Dixon to support a lavish lifestyle and her nationally renowned horse breeding operation. She's pleaded not guilty to a federal charge and also faces state charges.
On Sunday, auctioneers at her northern Illinois ranch sold off 146 horses and related items for about $2.4 million. That included a $775,000 bid for a champion stallion named Good I Will Be.
