CHICAGO – Shedd Aquarium is asking the public for help naming a four-month-old Pacific white-sided dolphin.

The male calf was born on Memorial Day and has been thriving at the Chicago aquarium.

The public can vote online for one of five names spoken by the indigenous people in coastal southeast Alaska and western Canada, where the dolphins are found. Voting begins Monday and will last three weeks.

Shedd is teaming up with NBC 5 Chicago, Telemundo Chicago and the Chicago Sun-Times, which will do stories to highlight the dolphin program and help people decide which name they think best fits the calf. They can vote online at NBCchicago.com.

The name will be revealed Oct. 12.

Shedd Aquarium is one of four aquariums in the country that care for Pacific white-sided dolphins.
