Ill. wants college kids to check smoke alarms
SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois State Fire Marshal urged college students moving into apartments and dormitories to ensure there are working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
Gov. Pat Quinn proclaimed today “Look Up! Pay it Forward Day” and September as Campus Fire Safety Month.
Students also should identify emergency exits when moving into new places.
Quinn signed a law last month that requires fire sprinkler protection in on-campus dorms at public and private colleges by September 2014.
