Alaska String Band to perform in DeKalb

The Alaska String Band, featuring the Zahasky family, will perform at 7 p.m. Oct. 1 at Grace Free Lutheran Church, 1121 S. First St., DeKalb. A free-will offering will be taken.

Hailing from Juneau, the five-member family band brings the best of Americana music. When not out enjoying the magnificent wilderness setting of their remote hometown which can only be visited by either boat or plane, the family entertains visitors on board cruise ships in Alaskan waters and at the Chilkat Theatre among the alpine slopes of a mountain top destination during the Alaskan summer months. On board a 40-foot bus, the Alaska String Band tours nationally each fall and early winter.

The band showcases American-roots music favorites, touching on genres such as swing, jazz, bluegrass, pop, folk, dawg, gospel, Hawaiian, Celtic and Russian.
