JOLIET – A haunting, quadruple murder trial in Joliet is drawing to an end.
Suburban Chicago computer specialist Christopher Vaughn is accused of shooting dead his wife and three kids as the family drove to a waterpark in 2007.
Defense lawyers rested Tuesday as the 37-year-old Oswego man told a judge he chose not to testify.
His attorneys sought to bolster Vaughn's claim that his 34-year-old wife, Kimberly, killed the children, then herself after becoming distraught over the couple's marital problems.
Prosecutors say it was Vaughn who murdered Kimberly, 12-year-old Abigayle, 11-year-old Cassandra and 8-year-old Blake. Abigayle was found clutching a stuffed animal.
Vaughn allegedly wanted his family out of the way, so he could start a new life in Canada.
Jurors have Wednesday off. They'll hear closings Thursday, then start deliberating.
