65th anniversary

Wilma and Ernie Kastler of Waterman are celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary.

Ernie Kastler and Wilma Kahle were married Sept. 27, 1947, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hinckley.

Wilma was a homemaker and Ernie retired from DeKalb AgResearch after 35 years of service.

They have three children, the late Sharon Kastler, Debra (Chuck) Leingang of St. Charles and Sue (Randy) Wordan of Sycamore.

They also have two grandchildren, Kelsey and Kahlee Leingang of Chicago.

50th anniversary

Bill and Barbara Wade of Waterman will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner Sunday at Fireside Grille in Sugar Grove.

Barbara L. Sawyer and William J. Wade were married Sept. 23, 1962, at Suydam Methodist Church. They celebrated their anniversary with a 10-day trip in Hawaii earlier this year.

They have two sons, Brian (Debra) of Waterman and Bradley (Stacey) of Waterman; one daughter, Brenda (Jeffrey) Norton of DeKalb; seven grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

Podmore-Modglin

Trent Modglin and Debbie Podmore were married on June 23, 2012, in Chicago.

The wedding took place aboard The Tall Ship Windy, which sailed from Navy Pier on Lake Michigan. A family friend of the Podmores, David Cooksey of Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, Ohio, performed the double ring ceremony.

After sailing on the lake, the 30 guests were taken on a Trolley Tour of Chicago, which ended at Gibson's Restaurant, where dinner was served.

The bride is the daughter of Min Su Podmore of Michigan City, Ind., and the late Clyde Podmore. She is a graduate of Ashland University and holds a master's degree from the University of Illinois in Chicago. She is a social worker in the city.

The groom is the son of Jim and Sharon Modglin of Genoa. He is a 1994 graduate of Genoa-Kingston High School and graduated from Florida State University in English/communications. He is the publisher of The Real Chicago magazine in the city.

After a wedding trip to the New England states, they are making their home in Chicago.

Persson-Turner

Deborah Ann Persson and Keenan Matthew Turner were married in an outdoor ceremony on July 7, 2012.

The daughter of Stephen and Jaime Persson of Sycamore, Deborah is a 2006 graduate of Sycamore High School and a 2010 graduate of DePaul University. She teaches fifth- and sixth-grade English at Avalon International Charter School in Chicago.

The son of Rick and Anita Turner of Sycamore, Keenan is a 2006 graduate of Sycamore High School and a 2010 graduate of DePaul University. He is employed at Intercall in Chicago.

Hannah Persson and Leah Davis were the sisters of honor. Bridesmaids were Katie Dawson, Laura Hicks and Jordan Eggleson.

Joe Turner, Will Turner, Drewe Davey, Noel Davis and Drayton Eggleson were the groomsmen.

The ceremony was officiated by the bride’s father.

Special music was provided by Phil Persson and Drayton Eggleson, with readings by the groom’s father.

An evening of dinner and dancing followed the ceremony at St. Mary’s Hall in Sycamore.

The newlyweds spent a week in Cozumel, Mexico.

They’ve made their first home in Chicago.

90th birthday

Mary Larson of Oak Crest DeKalb Area Retirement Center, DeKalb, will celebrate her 90th birthday with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 30 at Oak Crest, 2944 Greenwood Acres Drive, DeKalb.

She has eight children; 19 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Please omit gifts.

Inez Sanders of Heritage Woods of DeKalb will celebrate her 90th birthday with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Ellwood House Museum, 509 N. First St., DeKalb.

She has two children, John (Joan) Gorenz of Malta and Rhonda (Don) Gorenz-Macy of Denver, Colo.; three grandchildren, Wendy (Joe) Weishaar, Nick (Naomi) Gorenz and Jeri L. Gorenz, all of central Illinois; and six great-grandchildren.

Gifts should be omitted, but cards would be appreciated.
