The Kaneland girls volleyball team won its first conference match of the season, beating Sycamore, 25-12, 25-21, in Northern Illinois Big 12 East play.
Ellie Dunn had eight kills and three blocks for the Knights (11-15, 1-2 Northern Illinois Big 12 East).
Jenny Lubic finished with eight digs and 14 assists, while Shayna Tucek finished with 10 digs and two aces.
Barbs thump Hubs: DeKalb defeated Rochelle, 25-11, 25-14. Courtney Wagner finished with eight kills for the Barbs, and Courtney Bemis added six kills and three aces. Madison Lord had 13 assists for DeKalb, while Leah Scheri added 10. Nicole Schladt had nine digs.
The Barbs are now 18-4 and 3-1 in the Northern Illinois Big 12 East.
T’Wolves top Hawks: Dallas Boehne had nine digs, 16 assists and an ace as Indian Creek beat Hiawatha, 25-20, 25-14. Alyssa Arends had 10 digs and an ace for the Timberwolves, while Kate Thuestad finished with eight digs and nine kills.
Dani Clark finished with nine kills, 18 digs and three blocks for the Hawks, with Ashley Tamraz adding nine kills and Savanna Campbell helping out with 19 assists.
Somonauk falls: Newark beat Somonauk, 25-23, 25-21. Allison Humes had eight assists and two aces for the Bobcats. Payton Orech had two aces and eight digs for Somonauk and Ashlee Kawall finished with seven digs.
Lisle takes down Sandwich: Lisle defeated Sandwich, 25-11, 25-11. Denise Perez had three kills for the Indians, and Jesse Bivins finished with three aces.
Knights win conference match: Sam Rymarz, Jason Biddle and Anthony Parillo had goals for Kaneland in a 3-2 win over Rochelle. Parillo scored the game-winner with 2:42 left in the match. With the victory, the Knights are now 7-1-2 and 2-0-1.
Sandwich falls: Lisle beat Sandwich, 11-2. Colton Beatty and Allen Garcia had goals for the Indians.
Spartans top Yorkville: Angelina Ye got a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles for Sycamore, as the Spartans beat Yorkville, 4-1. Caitlyn Mereness and Aspen Paulsen won, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1 doubles, and Melanie Findlay and Alyssa Gregorec got a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the No. 2 doubles spot. Lauren Lundbeck and Kathryn Sullivan won, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 3 doubles.
“I thought our effort was very good tonight,” Sycamore coach Dave Hillmer said. “I was very happy with our play.”
Barbs get win: DeKalb got singles wins from Taylor Volk and Amanda Hedberg in a 3-2 win over Rochelle. Sabrina Killeen and Samantha Volk earned a 6-4, 6-3 win at No 1 doubles.
Knights sweep Morris: Kaneland beat Morris 5-0, with Sammie Schrepferman getting a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles, and Sarah Grams winning, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2 singles.
Madi Jurcenko and Jelly Emmanouil got a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 doubles spot, and Jess Woodward and Jenna Bicos won, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, at No. 2 doubles. Colleen Landers and Stephanie Karolewicz won, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 3 doubles.
“Great conference win. Madi and Jelly played with great poise today. Sammie looked strong,” Kaneland coach Tim Larsen said. “Sarah ran down shot after shot, Colleen and Steph placed the ball really well, and Jenna and Jess used some resolve to fight hard in the third set.”
Barbs top Rochelle: Ryan Schultz shot a 39 in a 166-179 victory over Rochelle. Ben Melms finished with a 40 for the Barbs, while Jacob Cook shot a 42. Chris Clark and Sam Ihm each had a 45.
“We had three pretty solid scores. It looks like we’re pulling out of our season-long slump hopefully at the right time,” DeKalb coach John Cordes said. “We’ll see if we can keep the momentum going here.”
Knights get win: Kaneland beat Morris in a Northern Illinois Big 12 East match at Hughes Creek, 151-169. The Knights’ duo of Matt Yonkovich and Luke Kreiter earned medalist honors, with each golfer shooting a 37. Connor Williams shot a 38 and Dan Miller finished with a 39.
Buzzard, Hudon lead Spartans: Curt Buzzard and Carly Hudon each shot a 38 for Sycamore in a 157-163 win over Yorkville. Kyle Buzzard had a 40 for the Spartans and Brett Anderson finished with a 41.
Bobcats 2nd in triangular: Alex Moyer shot a 37 for Somonauk, as the Bobcats shot a 171, good for second place in a triangular with Aurora Christian (first place) and Plano (third). Aaron Hargrove had a 42 for Somonauk.
Bobcats win triangular: Somonauk shot a 195 to win a triangular over Plano and St. Edward. Jessica Schultz finished with a 39 for the Bobcats.
