TAILS to host annual Mutt Strut

DeKALB – TAILS Humane Society is hosting its inaugural 5K-9 run, followed by the sixth annual Mutt Strut Dog Walk and Fun Fest this weekend.

The 5K-9 run begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Hopkins Park, 1403 Sycamore Road in DeKalb. To register for the 5K, visit active.com/running/dekalb-il/tails-5K-9-run-2012. The cost for pre-registered runners is $35 and the cost to register the day of the race is $45.

The Mutt Strut Dog Walk and Fun Fest kicks off at 11 a.m. at Hopkins Park just west of the shelter. Visit firstgiving.com/tails to register for the Mutt Strut. The event is a fundraiser to support TAILS and its programs, including the Catalyst, HomeBuddies and the new Pawsitive TAILS Animal Assisted Activities programs.

Food will provided by Noodles & Company and Culver's. The Dog Scouts of America Troop 208 will sponsor Dog Olympics at 11 a.m. The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office is scheduled to give a K-9 demonstration at 1 p.m.

The TAILS shelter will be closed Saturday, but adoptable pets are available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Mutt Strut event.
