PREP ROUNDUP: DeKalb’s York fires hole in 1

DeKalb sophomore Aaron York hit a hole in one Saturday at the Freeport Invitational.

York, playing for the Barbs’ frosh-soph team, used a 4-hybrid to ace the 17th hole at Park Hills West. It was York’s first career hole in one.

“It hit probably about five feet short, checked up and then rolled in,” DeKalb golf coach John Cordes said.

DeKalb has had four holes-in-one since Cordes took over as coach, all of them coming at the lower level.


Somonauk rolls: Kyle Hattan scored two goals and Jacob Alstadt added another in Somonuak’s 3-0 win over Indian Creek on Monday. Somonauk improved to 9-2-2 on the year, including 4-0 in the Little Ten Conference.


Royals fall: H-BR lost to Plano, 25-14, 25-16, on Monday. Beth Klein had 13 blocks, and Abby Tosch and Lauren Paver six blocks apiece.

Klein also added four kills.

Barbs suffer rare loss: DeKalb fell to Yorkville, 25-21, 25-22, for their first Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference loss of the season.

Courtney Bemis had seven kills, and Courtney Wagner chipped in six for the Barbs (21-4, 2-1 NI Big 12).

Madison Lord dished out nine assists.

Somonauk wins in two games: The Bobcats pulled out a victory against Gardner Smith Wilmington, winning, 25-23, 25-19.

Allison Humes led the Bobcats (7-9) with nine kills
