CHICAGO – Major League Baseball released the 2013 schedule today, which features changes to interleague play.
The Cubs-White Sox's series has been reduced to four games instead of the usual six. The teams meet May 27-28 at U.S. Cellular Field and May 29-30 at Wrigley Field, knocking out the series in four days.
The Sox open their season at home on April 1 versus the Kansas City Royals. The Cubs start the year at Pittsburgh on April 1 while their home opener is April 8 against the Brewers.
In interleague play, the Sox travel to Washington (their first road trip of the year, beginning April 9), New York and Philadelphia. The Braves, Mets and Marlins visit the South Side. Miami's trip to the Cell on May 24-26 will mark former manager Ozzie Guillen's first return since he left after eight years years with the organization.
One of the Sox's toughest stretches: a 10-game, 10-day road trip at Boston, the Yankees and Orioles on Aug. 30-Sept. 8. That kicks off 20 games in 20 days. However, they end the season with 14 of their 19 games at home.
The Cubs will travel to the LA Angels, Seattle and Oakland for interleague play. The Rangers, Astros and Angels will play at Wrigley. From May 29-June 13, the Cubs play 12 of 14 games at home.
The 2013 All-Star game is scheduled for July 16.
