Suspects claim car trouble, then rob home

MALTA – Police are searching for three suspects who they said robbed an elderly victim after asking for help with car trouble.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said the incident occurred Saturday in the 2900 block of Route 38 in rural Malta. The victim reported three white men approached his home on foot and told him they had car trouble.

The victim took the men to the garage to get water for their vehicle when he noticed that two of them were gone. When he asked where they were, he was told that he was being robbed and to remain calm, according to a police report.
