Sox try to snap 7-game losing streak to Detroit

CHICAGO – After missing the Royals series because of the birth of his son, third baseman Kevin Youkilis is back in the lineup today versus Detroit.

Youkilis adds a much needed bat for a scuffling offense that needs to find a groove as tonight's series opener, part of a four-game set. Slugger Adam Dunn (strained right oblique) is not in tonight's lineup and is missing his fourth straight game. He remains day to day.

Rookie left-hander Jose Quintana (5-4, 3.68 ERA) makes his first career start versus the Tigers who send right-hander Rick Porcello (9-11, 4.58) to the mound. The Sox enter tonight's game with a two-game lead on the Tigers. The South Siders have lost seven consecutive games to Detroit.

Gavin Floyd (right elbow flexor strain) will likely start Wednesday versus Detroit provided he doesn't suffer a setback. Pitching coach Don Cooper said Francisco Liriano, who was originally scheduled to start Wednesday, will be in the bullpen during the Tigers series. If he is not used in relief, Liriano could pitch in their series at Minnesota, Cooper said.
