Prep Roundup: G-K penalty kick opens up scoring in victory
A slow start didn’t stop Genoa-Kingston from attaining its seventh victory of the season on Monday.
The Cogs got two goals from Uriel Ortega and a goal and an assist from senior Devin Tijerina as G-K beat Rockford Christian, 4-1, in a Big Northern Conference East Division battle.
“We did not play well the first half,” G-K coach Randy Tate said. “The defense, with William Crozier leading the way, did a great job keeping us in the game.”
Tijerina’s penalty kick late in the first half opened the scoring for G-K (7-2, 2-1 BNC East).
The Cogs face Richmond-Burton in another BNC game on the road Wednesday.
H-BR downs Paw Paw: The Royals got another Little Ten Conference win, defeating Paw Paw, 5-1. Bernie Conley had two goals and an assist while Zach Michels added a goal and an assist. Billy Weissiner and Jared Madden had the other two goals for H-BR (9-2, 2-1 Little Ten).
The Royals will play their 1,000th game in program history at home on Wednesday against Hiawatha.
Timberwolves fall at home: Indian Creek lost, 6-0, to Earlville/Leland at home.
