PREP ROUNDUP: DeKalb volleyball wins three matches at Geneva Invitational
DeKalb girls volleyball won three of five matches Saturday at the Geneva Invitational.
The Barbs (9-2) won three-game matches against Aurora Central Catholic and Batavia, and edged Burlington Central, 25-22, 25-22. DeKalb fell to Joliet Catholic and Geneva.
Courtney Bemis led the Barbs with 25 kills on the day while Madison Lord dished out 38 assists. Courtney Wagner recorded five blocks.
Royals fourth at Somonauk: Hinckley-Big Rock finished in fourth place Saturday at the Somonauk Tournament.
The Royals went 1-3-1 in their matches, winning three games and losing seven games. The Royals split a pair of games with Leland-Earlville before two-game losses to Westminster Christian and Seneca. H-BR rallied for a 25-21, 25-23 victory over Somonauk, but lost its final match to Rosary.
Lauren Paver led the Royals with 13 kills and Beth Klein chipped in with 10. Senior Abby Tosch had 12 kill blocks.
Somonauk went 1-4.
BOYS SOCCER
H-BR bounces back: The Royals recovered from a tough loss to Kaneland by defeating Sandwich, 9-1. Bernie Conley had three goals and two assists while Billy Weissinger recorded two goals for the Royals. Jeremy Perales had a goal and an assist. Luis Ramirez scored for Sandwich.
The Royals are 6-2 on the season.
Bobcats play to draw: Tommy Skupien scored both goals for Somonauk in a 2-2 tie with Stillman Valley. The Bobcats are 4-2-1.
BOYS GOLF
Barbs 20th at Fenton: Ryan Schultz shot an 83 for DeKalb, as the Barbs took 20th at the Fenton Invite with a team score of 340. Hunter Tiggelaar had an 85 for DeKalb and Nick Bourdages shot an 88.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
DeKalb third at Plainfield: DeKalb took third at the Wildcat Invite in Plainfield with 97 points. Marc Dubrick led the Barbs, taking second with a time of 15:30. Isaac Hietanan was 18th at 16:34, and TJ Neidel was 20th with a time of 16:35.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Schrader takes first: Kelsey Schrader won the Plainfield Central Wildcat Invite for DeKalb, which was second as a team with 47 points. Schrader finished with a time of 18:54. Monica York was eight for DeKalb at 19:39, while Danielle Dlabal took 12th at 20:01. Christin Bothe took 14th for DeKalb (20:03).
“We ran much stronger as a team [Saturday],” DeKalb coach Mike Wolf said.
Clinton leads Knights at Oregon Open: Kaneland's Victoria Clinton took second at the Oregon Open with a mark of 19:30. Brianna Bower was third (19:34), while Abby Dodis finished fourth at 20:17. Amanda Lesak (20:32) was ninth for the Knights.
