Hunt's TD lifts Spartans in opener
SYCAMORE – Sycamore junior Josh Hunt only got one touch on the football all night, but he certainly made it count.
Hunt picked up a fumble by the Lincoln-Way West punter early in the fourth quarter and ran 35 yards for a return touchdown, giving Sycamore a 19-13 lead. The Spartans would get a couple key defensive stops down the stretch and hung on for a six-point win over the Warriors in their season opener.
Sycamore (1-0) got on the scoreboard first after a poor Lincoln-Way West punt left the Spartans with great field position at the Warriors’ 36-yard line in the first quarter. Junior quarterback Devin Mottet fired a strike to tight end Jake Davis over the middle for 33 yards and then running back Austin Culton finished it in on the next play with a 3-yard touchdown run.
