TAKE 2: Knights a cut above the rest
Daily Chronicle sports editor Ross Jacobson and sports reporter Steve Nitz spend their days reporting on the area’s sports scene. Occasionally, they give their viewpoints on those local sports. In this installment of their Take 2 column, they discuss the upcoming prep football season.
Nitz: Ross, it’s hard to believe, but high school football season is upon us. DeKalb has a new coach. Sycamore has a starting quarterback not named Ryan Bartels for the first time since 2008. Genoa-Kingston and Hiawatha are hoping to rebound from tough seasons a year ago, and Kaneland is looking to finally get to Champaign after losing in the semifinals the past two seasons.
To me, the Knights are the area’s best team. Daily Chronicle Player of the Year Drew David and running back Jesse Balluff are back, and Kaneland is loaded. The only regular-season game I see them possibly losing is the season finale against Morris.
